Over the years, the technology behind flash cartridges has evolved considerably.Originally, cartridges held ROM data (your software, generally a game or a homebrewed application) in FLASH memory and your save data was stored in a specific kind of RAM called volatile memory. Volatile memory retains its data only while it has electricity flowing through it. Once that power is cut, your data is lost. As you can imagine, this method of storing save data has resulted in a great many lost saves, and, when taking into consideration that chip musicians use RAM to store song data, this poses a significant problem. It is very common for a musician who uses a battery-based cartridge to lose their data, sometimes right in the middle of a performance!
The Infinity Cartridge was designed with nonvolatile RAM, meaning no power is required to retain data. In fact, the RAM used on the Infinity Cart can store your save data safely for 45 years! Removing the need for a battery drastically improves its stability, which is absolutely essential when taking live performances into consideration.
The Infinity Cartridge is designed to be the most convenient, compact, and safe cartridge on the market. If you take your music seriously, this is the cartridge for you.
In addition to securely storing your data, the Infinity Cartridge features a built in mini-USB port. This port allows you to connect your cartridge directly to your computer. Once you are connected, you can read and write new ROMs to your FLASH, read and write save data from your RAM, and, in the future, you will be able to perform firmware updates.
The Infinity Cartridge will be available for purchase in late Feburary at $84 USD. Each cartridge will come with everything required to get started immediately: One USB cable, a download of original software to be used with the Infinity Cartridge, and one cartridge case in your choice of colors: blue, red, yellow, or green.
